“artists don't own the meaning of their works” -Roberta Smith
“you don’t have to understand the narrative, it’s the voice that is important” -Jerome Silbergeld
“How to Hide and Seek” was made after some of the others in the series, like “How to Keep a Secret”, where a grid is superimposed on the movements and composition underneath. I wanted to use my fingerprints to apply neon green to create a grid matrix, and in the process a memory clicked of the painting “Hide and Seek” by Pavel Tchelitchew, which was on the cover of a book of short stories/textbook my dad had around the house when I was a kid. It's a famous surrealist picture, with children’s figures and faces hidden and interlaced into a green and yellow tree that is also a hand. And the idea of hiding and seeking fit perfectly into the series.
